A wide range of consultancy skills is available in TFRG from project identification and formulation to assessment of completed projects. Teams can be mobilised for all forms of technical assistance, with full support and in-house facilities for

Activities and projects relate both to the humid and to the semi-arid areas of tropical countries. Expertise covers all aspects of timber and non-timber products and services, and interactions between forest and non-forest areas in terms of ecology, biodiversity management and social systems. Thus expertise is available on forests, rangelands, plantations and agroforestry.

In addition to its capability in tropical forestry within the group there are significant resources relevant to resource management in temperate environments:

  • extensive taxonomic collections of flora and fauna in the repository collections at CABI, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the Natural History Museum.
  • management experience of temperate forests in the UK
  • experience of forest ecology and tree improvement in a temperate context
  • capacity in monitoring effects of trees on the temperate environment
  • training and education in the UK and continental Europe

Within the group there is research experience of most aspects of temperate silviculture including pest and disease management and environmental amelioration.
